The Bruce Herald reports the death of Mr Mark Scott, a veteran soldier. Born at Kelso, Roxburghshire, in 1827, he enlisted in the 72nd Highlanders in 1845.

He served in Canada, the Crimea, and India, and had Crimean and Indian medals with clasp. He came to New Zealand in 1861, and, marrying a daughter of the late Mr George Brown, of Elderlee [or Eiderlee], settled in the Tokomairiro district. He held a commission as ensign in the Bruce Rifles.
